CIGAR BOX BULLETIN
Volume 57, No. 25 October 21, 2009
JOHN CRAINE rang the old school bell at 9:30 to get us off to another roaring start. This writer ( for a name see the end of the CBB ) told the group of the beginning of the pledge on Columbus Day in 1892 and then led the assemblage in the present day version of the pledge. CHUCK THE PATRIOT STANDARD led us in America the Beautiful, Grand Old Flag, and Yankee Doodle Dandy with the able accompaniment of JIM SANTORA. BILL DYNAN did his usual great job of recapping last week’s festivities and told four stories about different ways of looking at things. Returnees are: JERRY BERRAFATI from Tuscany and CHARLIE MOSHER from Maine .
ANNOUNCEMENTS: TIM WAGNER of the YMCA gave us the bad news about parking. From now into eternity, parking will be very tight ( tighter!!!!!). They are trying to open as many spots as possible, but be prepared to park elsewhere. There may be a few spots at the side of the building. There will not be valet parking available. October 27 is “Lock Your Meds Day.” Be especially careful if you have children in the house ----- medicine can do great damage unless prescribed for the individual. GEORGE SHADDOCK. told us to check answer machines and other devices because after November 1 we must use the area code on all local calls. BILL SALTSMAN told us there will be a signing ceremony by the Board of Selectmen for a Covenant of Care ----- a support group of residents and military servicemen and women and their families. The ceremony will be at 3 PM at the Cole Auditorium at Greenwich Library. Endorsed by the military, the Covenant of Care is now in 600 towns and cities across the country. TODAY'S SPEAKERS: were IAN AND SHEP MURRAY, the founders of Vineyard Vines. They were introduced by RICH LIMBACHER. Their story is amazing, starting in 1998 with some designs for a few hundred ties which they sold for $1800. They started on Martha’s Vineyard but the vacationers would go home and tell their friends and men’s store operators about those ties. The two brothers are the sole owners and now have a $60 million dollar business with 13 stores. They sell a wide range of men’s and women’s clothing and, they emphasized, they are still having fun.
